Home Remedies For Athlete’s Foot

- Article posted by James Thomas

Athletes FootMany people think that Athlete’s foot is a condition that is confined to sports people who wear sneakers or trainers most of the time.

However, absolutely anyone can get it.

All you need to do is walk barefoot on common breeding grounds such as damp floors in public bathrooms or changing rooms at the beach or local pool and you could pick up Athlete’s Foot.

What is Athlete’s Foot?

The cause of Athlete’s Foot is ‘tinea pedis’ which is a fungus that tends to target the skin, hair and nails. Some common symptoms are reddening and cracking of the skin and / or skin that is itchy and flaky. In really bad cases, blistering can even occur.

Fortunately there are effective home remedies for athletes foot. Here is a 3 step natural treatment that you can perform at home that will help you relieve these often painful symptoms and also fight off the fungus all together.

Step 1) Tea-Tree Oil Foot Bath

100% Australian tea-tree oil is a powerful antiseptic with potent anti-fungal qualities. Add 10 or so drops to a foot bath and soak for up to 30 minutes. This will both help to soothe and soften the skin (which can often harden) and also kill off the fungus.

Step 2) Acidophilus Yogurt Application

After your foot bath make sure you dry you feet thoroughly. In fact, if you used hot water in your foot bath, you may need to let your feet sweat and cool down and then dry them again. Once they are bone dry, apply some natural yogurt that is high in Acidophilus. This is a friendly bacteria that is both soothing to the skin and will keep the fungus in check. Let the yogurt dry and then rinse off with cold water. Again, dry your feet thoroughly.

Step 3) Cornflour Application

The final step in this treatment is the application of cornflour to the affected area. Cornflour is great for keep the skin nice and dry. How it works is the cornflour will absorb moisture from the skin throughout the day instead of allowing it to build up, warm and fester. Remember, warmth and moisture are the perfect environment for this nasty little fungus.

If you apply these natural home remedies for athletes foot at least once daily, you will find that your Athlete’s Foot symptoms will ease and clear up and with any luck you will kill off the fungus all together without needing to use those harsh and unnatural creams.
